Frequently Asked Questions

Image - FAQsHere are a few of the more common questions I get asked by my customers or at trade shows. Click a question to see the answer.

Is the Oral Hygiene Solution harmful? Is it safe for my pet?
Of course! The products have been used with pets for years and have proven to be very effective when used as directed. The pet gel does contain aloe vera and other natural ingredients. The human versions of the solution (mouth rinses) and gel have been used by dental professionals and consumers for over 20 years. <Bad Breath Website>
What is the main ingredient that fights bad breath?
The main ingredient is called Oxygene®. It's a unique ingredient from Oxyfresh that helps fight odors and is in a wide variety of their products. Here is a a good video presentation and fact sheet that explains more. Oxygene® Presentation - Fact Sheet
What color is the solution and the gel?
The Oral Hygiene Solution is a clear liquid. The Pet Gel is also fairly clear with the consistency of aloe vera. There are no artificial dyes to discolor teeth.
Do they have an odor?
Unlike some oral health products for pets that may use artificial flavoring as a way to make their products more accepted, the Oxyfresh products do not. The Oral Hygiene Solution does have a very slight odor but since it is diluted in water animals should never notice it...even cats!
My cat is finicky. Will she notice any smell and not drink her water?
Most likely not since the product is heavily diluted. Even if she does, all products come with a complete money back guarantee.
What if I use a little more of the Oral Hygiene Solution that recommended?
No problem. The solution is safe and effective with no harsh chemicals. Some customers have even noted they use a little more for their pets. The only negative may be that you're using too much Oral Hygiene Solution and end up buying more than you may really need.
Which product is more effective? The gel or the solution.
Both are effective, especially when used together. If you think about the way a cat or dog drinks water, then the solution will generally take a bit longer since animals lap up water and don’t let it swish around in their mouth like people can. The gel is nice because it can stay in their mouth longer since it has a thicker consistency. Dogs and cats tend to lick the gel around their mouth and with a rough tongue it can help to loosen plaque.
Can I use the Pet Gel externally?
Absolutely. It's a wonderfully versatile product. Rub it on cuts, scrapes and wounds to help aid healing and keep the flesh pink and healthy. The human equivalent has been widely used by dental professionals for years to aid healing for oral surgery.
Can it be used on pet's other than dogs and cats?
My customer's have told me that they have used it on other animals and it works great. Other Oxyfresh products can also be used as part of a healthy program to keep your pets clean, healthy and a fresh. More information for: Horses - Rabbits - Birds
How long will it take to work?
Depending upon how bad your pet's oral hygiene is, you will typically see noticeable results within 3-5 days. Sometimes it may take longer to begin seeing results, especially in dogs. Remember that dogs have a tendency to lap up water quickly so the water may not stay in their mouths as long as it should, but over time the results will amaze you. The key is consistent, daily use.
Are the effects permanent?
Unfortunately, no! It would be nice, but like human oral health care it's about a life long commitment. If you stop using the Oral Hygiene Solution your pet's bad breath will begin to return. Simply start the program again to regain a fresher mouth for your cats and dogs.
Can I spray the Oral Hygiene Solution directly into my pet's mouth?
Yes you can.
What if my dog or cat has an illness. Will this interfere with their treatment?
We can't make any medical claims or diagnosis so it's best to make sure your vet is aware of what you are doing. The active ingredient to help stop bad breath is not systemic. The vets I've worked with say that in their pet patients that are sick they never had any problems. The gel and solution are not drugs.
